Loch Caluim trail run, 10th April 2022

Despite a chilly and wet start, 21 Harriers attended the final trail run in the 2021 / 2022 season. Within half an hour, the clouds parted and the sun came out. Conditions were quite benign with no more rain or wind.

This is the first time this route has been included in the trail series. It proved to be challenging as the track was quite wet in places and a little uneven. Despite this, most of the runners enjoyed the challenge. The climb back up toward Dorrery around mile  7 was also a bit of a talking point, but that is the variety of the trail.

NHH would like to thank Angus MacKay for setting up, which included venturing out the 4.4 miles sodden track to remote Loch Caluim and planting the turning point flag. Also, thanks to Julie-Anne Leslie for timekeeping.

The results are also available by clicking here.

Thanks to all the Harriers for their attendance this season, to all the trail organisers and to Sandy and Les for the whole programme. Hopefully now that Covid is mostly over, we can get back to a more normal season next year.

Next up: the 2022 / 2023 trail season!

Beach and bark trail run, 20th March 2022

16 Harriers ran the scenic but rather windy beach and bark trail run. Other than the wind, the weather conditions were good with welcome spring sunshine.

Thanks to Tony Chalmers and Julie Anne Leslie for marshalling on the beach / main road, Vicki Teven for timekeeping. Also, thanks to Liz Hendry for assisting with timekeeping.

The results are available by clicking here.

John O’Groats trail run, 30th January 2022

A total of 25 Harriers turned up for the John O’Groats trail run, which is a firm favourite.

The run took place in benign conditions – not too cold or windy, and it stayed dry. This was fortunate, as it came after a stormy Saturday and wet and windy Sunday evening.

Many thanks to Simon Harrison for setting up the course and his assistants Alison Smith, and Willie & Valerie Miller!

Limekiln trail run, Sunday 9th January 2022

The weather was cold with light winds, but bright and sunny for our first run of 2022. Indeed, this was the first time the Limekilns trail had been run. Although based mostly on the former Raey Classic trail, the reverse route and changes brought about by the construction of the wind farm have given this route a fresh feel.

After running east to the end of Raey village, the outward section was a succession of tough little climbs southward, but the new access track that should be runnable in all weathers. The clearance of forest on the homeward/downhill section has opened up fine views west to Beinn Ratha and north to Sanside bay, and they looked fine in the low winter sunshine. The route would be worth of a run on a nice summer’s moring /evening!

There was an excelent turnout with 32 Harriers in total – 27 running the long route, and 5 running the short route. It was really great to see such a good turnout with a few people we hadn’t seen in a while.

Thanks to Sophie Dunnett for setting out the course and to marshalls El Rico Hunt, Willie Miller, Marion Budge and Greame Dunnett for looking out for all the runners. Thanks also to Willie and Graeme for the photos.

Photos coming soon!

Blingery Trail Run, Sunday 12th December

The third trail run of the 2021/2022 series took place in very pleasant conditions in the Blingery Hills.

A healthy turn out included a couuple of rebel Christmas house elves (Jayne Klimas and Jennifer Bremner), and a fine pair of Christmas pudding leggins (Julieanne Leslie).

It was another very enjoyable event, hosted by the incorrigble Mrs B (Fiona Bremner) and Mr Nice (Simon Harrison). Thank you for all your efforts!
