Report 9 - Week beginning 08/03/10
Have you stuck to the training programme? If not any reasons why?
No I'm not following the programme, I've changed my whole plan this week due to advice from Sophie.
Have you done more or less than expected? Explain.
Less than what I have been doing as my shins are really sore. Had a meeting with Sophie last week and she advised me to cut back on my miles, the number of runs a week, and also with my training in the gym.
I have to say I am quite gutted but I don't seem to be able to shake off the sore shins, but hopefully by doing this as I'm told it will make a difference.
- Mon - 5.3 miles
- Wed - 2 miles
- Fri - 2.2 miles
- Sun - 1 mile for photo!! I could easily have carried on running though.

How did you feel during training this week? What were the highs and lows?
Not great!! Although I have to say by cutting down I hope my shins will get better.
Lows - having to cut my mileage and my number of runs and my sessions at the gym.
High - mmm defo none of them this week!
Are you seeing improvements; in speed, distance, breathing?
Definitely a huge difference in all 3, but some days I do still struggle with my breathing. Got some great tips from Sophie about my breathing, hopefully I've taken it all board and it will help me loads.
Where are you walking/running; gym, beach, roads, forests?
Running on the roads, Sophie told me to give the hills a miss for a few weeks and just stick to the flats.
Are you training alone/with someone else/mixture? How does this affect your training?
Training alone this week. When training alone I find I don't push myself enough as I would if I was training with someone, but hubby will be back training with me when he is home at the weekend.
Any injuries?
SHINS, SHINS, SHINS they are quiet sore, when I touch them it feels like they are badly bruised .

Are you feeling any benefits away from training as a result of the training; health, toning up, more energetic?
Started the week of feeling really good but as the week went on I think my get up and go had got up and gone!! Due to the fact I've had to cut down.
Are you doing any other forms of exercise; swimming, cycling, yoga, pilates?
Still going to gym but not working on my lower half of my body just been working on my upper body strength, and now I've cut back for a few weeks. I'll go swimming the days I'm not running.
Any other observations?
All I can say is if anyone ever gets or suffers from shin splints I sympathize with you, it's not a nice injury to have and very hard to shake off.
I think my family might be chasing me out the door for a run by the end of the week as I'll be very grumpy, as I've said before I'm so hooked now that if I don't get my run I'm climbing the walls, hopefully this is just a temporary hitch!!
