Report 9 - Week beginning 08/03/10
The X-ercise Files - Diary so far.....
This week started off bad enough with possible plantar fasciitis to my left foot and didn't improve all week due to illness.
I woke up on Monday with instep pain and foot cramp and decided to rest it for a couple of days. The pain wasn't terrible I just felt that it wouldn't take much for it to get a whole heap worse and figured a couple of days of rest would be better than damaging it more.
I went out Wednesday morning at about 6.30am feeling stiff and just not my usual self but decided a run would make me feel better - wrong! I forgot to take my inhaler before venturing out into the cold air and I also forgot my scarf which I have to use round my mouth so I don't breathe the cold air in to start with. Within minutes of starting to run I was fighting the urge to walk and I've not had to do that in a long, long while. I tried to distract myself with the scenery and kept talking myself out of walking but eventually the urge was too great and I gave in and walked. From that point on I knew I was fighting a losing battle and one walk turned into two then into four, in the end I did more walking than I did running, telling myself the whole time 'I told you so'.
Halfway round I checked my watch to see what my time so far was (not that I really wanted to know, there's slow and then there's the pace I was going at. But hey, something else to batter myself with!) only to find that I must have knocked the button and it had reset itself.
While it would be great to believe that I had done 1 mile in the 2 minutes 40 seconds showing on the watch that would make me some kind of flying ninja from one of those dodgy looking films that get loads of awards, and I am as far from Ninjaesque as you can get!
I walked the last few minutes home coughing because of the cold air and lack of inhaler, feeling very sorry for myself and pretty down heartened and stewing on the fact that my entire run had consisted of a pathetic 2 miles, half of which I walked.
I think I knew before even starting the run that I was coming down with something as I didn't feel right but I just wanted to get out for the run and push past it. On the upside my foot didn't hurt one little bit!
Thursday, Friday & Saturday I was just too ill to go out running even though I so wanted to get a decent run in just to get past Wednesdays fiasco, but I knew I'd just be setting myself up for pretty much the same drama.
Today is Sunday, I was up with the birds determined to do at least a 4 mile run but even Wayne is putting his foot down and saying I'm just not well enough yet so I've shelved this mornings run but I'm not ruling out a small run this evening or even a couple of miles on the dreadmill if I feel better later on.
Highs this week? None whatsoever. Although my foot being better is of course a benefit.
Lows? Where do I start? Oh yes, no need to, just read all the above!
I'm still enjoying being a 'runner' and I guess that means taking the good runs with the bad as I'm sure there'll be plenty more of both.
Next week however WILL be a good week!
