The X-ercise Files - Diary of a 'wannabe better' long distance runner

For those of you who read my last report of my progress you may well be surprised that I have anything more to add because at that time I had more or less admitted defeat with my troubled knee but I am delighted to say I found a temporary cure to allow me to continue running and thankfully I am getting on good. I tried out a knee support which much surprise my allowed me to run reasonably pain free.

After the best part of a month where my training was completely ruined with injury I am now back at it running around 3 times a week , I have not really followed the correct training programme I should be on at this stage in the build up to the run on Sunday, I am still really plundering the miles doing around 3-4 miles each time and trying to regain the fitness levels I had reached around 6 weeks ago .I did spend some time in the gym whilst I was injured but I don't find it nearly as good as getting out running.

I have lost well over 2 stone in weight since I started training in January and my whole fitness and health levels are so much better now.

Last Sunday along with Sandra -The Taskmaster who herself has been nursing an injured foot we entered and completed the Edinburgh 10k.It was a great day and I really enjoyed competing in my first 10k.

So after all the weeks of the highs and lows of the training the race is all but upon us and I did state at the outset that I was not only keen to complete the Mey 10k but I wanted to do it in less than an hour, I have tried to convince myself to shelve that idea after being injured but knowing the competitive beast in me I am sure that is still really my objective so fingers crossed and roll on Sunday!
