A bit about Alzheimer Scotland from Cathy Mackay:

Alzheimer Scotland - Action on Dementia is a Scottish charity that is able to offer help and a wide range of services for people with dementia as well as their carers. The organisation works locally to improve the position of people with dementia and their carers. It also campaigns to improve awareness, public policies and services.

In Caithness, the service operates from Couthie Corner, in Bayview House, Thurso, and Longberry, in Pulteney House, Wick, providing specialist day care services for people with dementia, care at home in the community, carer support, training and advice and information.

Thurso and Wick Services relies on local donations to ensure that it can maintain a high standard of care for people with dementia and their carers in Caithness.

Castle of Mey 10K Shares Event Profits with Local Youth Groups

The inaugural run of the Castle of Mey 10K in May proved a great success with its full quota of runners, thanks in large part to the support of local volunteer organizations.

To show their appreciation, the organizers recently awarded a portion of the event's excess funding to the participating groups: 1st Thurso Ranger Guides, Caithness Company ACF, and Caithness Cycling Club (youth section).

The remaining funds will be donated to North Highland Harriers, a runners club being formed to support the ongoing interest in running in Caithness, as highlighted by the record number of participants at the Castle of Mey 10K.

In addition to aiding a healthier lifestyle, North Highland Harriers also hopes to promote the beautiful Caithness terrain by hosting several running events throughout the year. The group currently has more than 100 people from Caithness registering an interest to join.
